Students for Climate Action was founded in 2017 as the Suffolk Student Climate Action Committee. Since then, some of our climate achievements include:
After attending monthly board meetings and meeting one on one with Town officials, motivated the Town of Islip to become a Climate Smart Community and add a sustainability director to their staff.
We are working with NYS Senator Monica Martinez to create S5099, a bill meant to assist school districts to include solar in their energy performance contracts.
Through meeting directly with NYS Senate and Assembly members, we helped pass the Climate Leadership and Community Preservation Act.
We have met with countless elected officials, including: NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Suffolk County Legislator Kara Hahn, NYS Senator Monica Martinez, US Congresswoman Kathleen Rice and many others to achieve these victories!
If you would like to be a part of the change we continue to fight for, don't hesitate to reach out and join us! Any student is welcome to join one of our existing chapters or to create new ones!
