Currently, New York State education laws require that energy performance contract cost recovery periods not exceed 18 years. It is estimated that the average time for recovery of renewable energy performance contract costs for public school districts is 21 years. The Students for Solar Act would extend the recovery period to 25 years.
In 2018, a Renewable Energy Construction Task Force was put together to survey all public and private land within Suffolk County in hopes of finding sites that would allow for the building of renewable energy production without harming the environment or infringing on any previously established ecosystems.
