Offshore Wind (OSW) Resources

S4CA Supports Offshore Wind... Do You?

Offshore Wind is an Offshore Win!

As we race to reduce carbon emissions and confront climate change, offshore wind remains a critical solution. It provides reliable and clean energy to our electricity grid, powering millions of homes around the United States. Offshore wind is beneficial to local economies, industries, fisheries, and marine life. It supports thousands of jobs and can help us meet our renewable energy goals.

To combat recent misinformation campaigns, Students for Climate Action has developed this webpage to provide the Long Island community with valuable resources and information. Please reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns.

Sign Our Offshore Wind Petition:

Empire Wind 1 may be back, but offshore wind is still being threatened...

It's time to fight back!

CALLING ALL STUDENTS!

Students for Climate Action is seeking your artistic talent! We invite middle and high school students from across Long Island to participate in our offshore wind poster contest. • Clean electricity, power, and grid infrastructure
  • Coastal protection and animal conservation
  • Environmental policy and advocacy
  • Community engagement, climate justice, and youth empowerment
  • Combating misinformation
  • And more!

We encourage students and teachers to research the benefits of offshore wind. Please visit www.s4ca.org/osw for more information!

Posters should be a standard 8.5 x 11 inch size, but can be any orientation (vertical or horizontal). Submissions should either be emailed to hbench@s4ca.org or mailed to P.O. Box 314, Sayville, NY 11782 by Monday, June 30th. Please include the students’ name, school, year, teacher name, and teacher contact (email preferred) with the submission.

Winners will be selected and notified by Friday, August 1st. A number of finalists (to be determined) will receive a monetary prize. All submissions may also be featured at a local gallery exhibit later this summer/fall (more information to come).

Please email S4CA Deputy Executive Director Harrison Bench at hbench@s4ca.org with any questions, comments, or concerns.

“Earlier this week, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management lifted its stop work order against the Empire Wind 1 project currently being developed off the coast of Long Island by Equinor.

Students for Climate Action thanks Secretary Burgum for allowing construction to proceed. Empire Wind 1 will deliver clean, reliable, American energy to 500,000 homes and will help New York State meet our goals under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.

We also applaud Governor Hochul, Senators Gillibrand and Schumer, Congressmen Garbarino and Goldman, and the coalition of environmental, civic, and labor groups for their tireless advocacy in getting the stop work order lifted.

As a youth-focused organization, we are grateful for the clean energy future this project provides.”
